Binalup Grassroots Shine at 2026 Boorloo NAIDOC Netball Carnival
The Binalup Grassroots Netball Program, proudly supported by Albany Netball Association, once again showcased the strength of culture, community and opportunity at the 2026 Boorloo NAIDOC Netball Carnival, held on Wednesday 8 July at the Gold Netball Centre and Matthews Netball Centre in Jolimont, Perth. The annual carnival is one of Netball WA's largest First Nations participation events, bringing together more than 100 teams from across Western Australia to celebrate Aboriginal culture through netball.
The Binalup Grassroots Program fielded four teams at this year's carnival:
12 & Under
14 & Under
16 & Under
Open
The Albany-based program is part of Netball WA's Aboriginal Grassroots initiative, providing a culturally safe and supportive pathway for Aboriginal players, coaches and officials. Through weekly skill development, mentoring and competition opportunities, the program aims to strengthen confidence, connection to culture and participation in netball, while creating pathways into representative and association netball.
Program Coordinator Cheri Muir said the carnival is about much more than the results on the scoreboard.
"The Carnival means so much to our community and our Aboriginal Mob. It provides an opportunity for our players to come together, celebrate culture, represent Binalup with pride and create lifelong memories."
The 14 & Under team enjoyed a fantastic tournament, progressing all the way to the Grand Final before finishing as runners-up after a spirited performance. Throughout the day, the team represented Binalup Grassroots with strength, determination and heart, earning the respect of players and spectators alike.
