Gail Butterworth - local sporting star

A wonderful and very deserving recognition for Gail Butterworth, who has been named a recipient of the WA Local Sporting Stars Volunteer Recognition Program for her outstanding contribution to netball across the Great Southern.

Gail’s commitment to netball spans more than two decades. After her four daughters fell in love with the sport, Gail became heavily involved with Katanning Netball Association, spending 12 years as a coach, committee member and Development Officer before being awarded life membership.

Since 2022, Gail has continued that commitment with Albany Netball Association — travelling around 185 kilometres each way from her farm near Katanning for training and match days. That’s an incredible commitment of time and energy, all driven by her passion for helping athletes develop and reach their potential.

Gail has a real gift for seeing young players grow. From helping emerging athletes develop their skills to supporting players as they progress into higher levels of competition, her focus has always been on giving others the opportunity to succeed.

But Gail’s impact goes well beyond what happens on the netball court. She understands the important role sport plays in bringing people together, building confidence and giving players a place to switch off from the pressures of everyday life.

This recognition celebrates not only the hours Gail spends coaching, but the countless kilometres travelled, the knowledge shared, the encouragement given and the lives she has positively influenced along the way.
